IONA

Formed in 1989 by Dave and David Fitzgerald and joined shortly after by Joanne Hogg, between 1990 and 2015 IONA released 13 critically acclaimed albums.

 

Iona’s visionary ‘Book of Kells’ album was voted Best Album (Billboard Magazine Critic’s Choice), Best International album (GMA Awards & Syndicate Magazine USA) and won a Dove award.

 

‘Journey into the Morn’ was voted amongst ‘Q Magazine’s top 5 Folk Albums and Top 50 Albums.

 

Keyboard legend Rick Wakeman cited Iona as his favourite band and wrote an appraisal in the bands 2001 box set ‘The River Flows’.

 

Iona twice headlined Cornerstone Festival in the USA, in front of 25,000 people, played in front of 35,000 at Creation Festival (USA), twice played at Glastonbury Festival and headlined at many prestigious venues, such as The Royal Festival Hall, Quen Elizabeth Hall and Shepherd’s Bush Empire (all in London). The band were one of the first western artists to tour in the Baltic States, immediately after the fall of the Iron Curtain. Iona made many TV appearances and Iona's music has been used extensively on numerous TV programmes, including on the BBC, ITV, Channels 4&5 and in the USA and Australia. 

 

In August 2020, Gonzo Multimedia released the ‘Book of Iona’, an incredible 17 cd box set containing all of the bands studio releases, plus a companion disk of previously unreleased material for each and ‘The Sound of Iona’ a cd of new recordings of Iona songs by various band members in collaboration with Dave. The whole project was curated and produced by Dave.
