PATREON
WHY PATREON?
I started my Patreon community after months of planning back in February 2022 - not an ideal time as the invasion of Ukraine happened literally just as the page went live, with its ensuing effect on everyone's finances. However it's one of the best decisions I've ever made. The aim was to gather together people who love my music and create a community through which everyone would benefit.
I really wanted to be able to spend more time writing and releasing more of my own music, but it seemed like that was getting harder to do by the minute. Not because of lack of inspiration, but because of the seismic changes that have taken place in the music industry over the past 20 or so years. The traditional model of record companies supporting and financing recordings by niche artists like myself had long gone and, for better or worse, music streaming had almost completely decimated income from royalties and cd sales. As writing and recording original music takes up vast amounts of time for zero income, I had to find another way I could still do this, my vocation in life. (BTW this is one of the reasons there was a 7 year gap between the release on Celestial Fire and To the Far Away).
Thanks to the far sighted people who had the idea for Patreon, and the amazing patrons who have joined me on this epic journey of life, I can now say that, 4 years down the road, I'm able to spend much more time once again, writing, recording, producing and mixing my own music! The first fruits of this were released in July 2025 in the shape of my 5th Solo album, the 2 CD 'On the Edge (of what could be)', and then in March 2026 the release of the limited edition 3CD Patreon box version (with a 3rd CD including 70 more minutes of music). I was able to get Simon Phillips, my favourite drummer ever to play on the album which was a bucket list moment! We're still pretty much living 'on the edge' financially, but my amazing patrons, through their support (which can be as little as the price of a cup of coffee per month) have given me, for the first time in my life, a regular monthly income, which gives me the breathing space to work on my music.
In return, my patrons have literally become part of both my and my wife Sharon's lives and share our musical journey in real time as it unfolds, hearing the music as it comes into being and coming together with like minded people bound by the love of music. I've had some amazing special guests on our Weekly Zoom Gatherings, including people like Larry Fast (Peter Gabriel band), Bryan Beller (The Aristocrats/Steve Vai), Peter Jones (Camel/Tiger Moth Tales), Paul Bielatowicz (Carl Palmer), Mike Keneally (Frank Zappa/Steve Vai), Neal Morse (Spocks Beard), Ebony Buckle, Sally Minnear, Gregg Bendian (Tod Rundgren/Pat Metheny), Bob Graham (drum tech/tour manager Lenny White/Simon Phillips/Return to Forever/Jeff Beck) and many more!! Do check out our Patreon Community.
"I can not recommend more highly becoming a paid Patreon member. The gifts it gives back are to numerous to mention. Please considered it on the top of your list."

"Being Dave’s patron is one of my best investments! I get to support one of my favorite artists in his creation of music, and also get so many benefits back. It’s truly a win-win! The zoom meetings are a ton of fun, there are great photos and interesting posts coming out every week, and I’m also in one of the tiers that gets 1-on-1 sessions… which are incredible! And helping me to develop my own artistry. I cannot recommend becoming a paid patron enough. Whichever tier you choose, you’ll feel like you’re getting more than you’re paying for."

"It is tremendously rewarding to follow Dave and get all this exclusive insight into his music. We sometimes look back at the past with some unreleased clips from Iona days among other things as well. I can really recommend becoming a paying patron!"
